Adolescent & Adult Dog Training

Imagine strolling into your favourite café, your dog walking comfortably by your side on a loose lead, no more stressful pulling! Now imagine sitting down at a table in the café, and your dog lies down by your feet calmly, until you are ready to leave.

Picture the ease of calling your dog back from exploring in the park – a reliable recall means freedom and peace of mind. When you have a good recall, not only does your dog return to you on your walks, but he will also get off the couch when you call him to you inside the house. Envision relaxing at a pub lunch, or when you’re working from home with your dog settling calmly at your feet for a few hours at a time, or enjoying a peaceful meal at home without any table-side begging. Think about the simple joy of loading the dishwasher while your dog sits quietly, without getting underfoot or trying to lick all the dishes in the dishwasher. This programme is designed to help you achieve these everyday dreams of a well-behaved dog.

Whether this is your first dog or you’re navigating challenges with a current one, if you have the time and enjoy actively training between our weekly sessions, this programme is for you. Our first session is dedicated to getting to know you and your dog, understanding the specific challenges you’re facing, and observing your dog in their home environment. If she’s pulling on the lead while you’re out walking, we may step outside with your dog on her lead so that I can observe you both and make a plan for how to work with the behaviours I am seeing. This crucial first step allows me to formulate a tailored training plan that will work effectively for your dog and within your family situation – because effective dog training isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Over the following five in-home visits, you’ll gain the essential skills and knowledge to further develop the foundations you’ve already laid (whether in puppyhood or more recently) for a well-behaved companion, using modern, effective, rewards-based training techniques. We’ll equip you with strategies rooted in clear communication using body language, movement, and positive reinforcement, rather than relying on verbal cues alone or corrective methods. We can also incorporate clicker training and teach you how to use this effective tool, or alternatively, we can use verbal markers to clearly communicate with your dog.

What’s Included: ESSENTIALS PROGRAMME

  • Session 1: Meet & Assess: This initial in-home session is dedicated to understanding your specific needs, observing your dog’s behaviour in their environment and the situations where you find their behaviour difficult. We’ll discuss the challenges you are facing and I’m likely to ask to see some of these behaviours in action. This allows for the creation of a truly personalised training plan. I will send you the plan within 48 hours of our first meeting.

  • Sessions 2-7 (Over the Following 6 Weeks): Tailored to your specific needs, situation and with an understanding of your dog’s personality, we’ll be working from our training plan, with one session each week, focusing on key polite dog behaviours that we have agreed after our initial consultation.

  • Session 8, 1-2 months after our work together because I am invested in you and your dog’s success with training, I check in to see how you and your dog are doing. If you need more support at this time, I can suggest follow up plans. If you simply need to polish some of your dog’s behaviours, we can usually cover this in the follow up session with some training tips.

In addition, you receive these bonuses:

  • Personalised Training notes following every session: A written plan outlining the strategies and exercises discussed during our sessions so that you can practice with certainty and clarity. This will be sent via email or WhatsApp (your preference)
  • Email or WhatsApp Support: One email or WhatsApp query between each of the six training sessions.
  • I video the training of one behaviour per lesson, I can demonstrate the practice with your dog, and you can use this video to work from over the week

Imagine the relief of those first few walks after our initial sessions. You’ll feel the difference immediately as your dog starts to understand the loose lead, walking comfortably by your side. Picture the confidence you’ll gain seeing me work directly with your dog, demonstrating exactly what they’re capable of, and knowing you have a clear path forward.

Those moments when you call your dog, whether in the park or at home, and they respond with a prompt and happy return? That’s seriously impressive to your friends for a start! And the peace of mind you get from that, knowing they are safe and connected to you. Think about being able to work from home, uninterrupted, your dog settling calmly by your feet, perhaps keeping your toes warm under the desk. Imagine the joy of having visitors arrive and your dog greeting them politely, without any of the previous jumping, because we’ve laid the groundwork together.

This Jumpstart Programme is specifically designed for you if you’d like a more hands-on start with my direct involvement. It is also slightly faster than the Essentials programme, with our eight appointments spread over 5 weeks. We’ll hit the ground running. Our initial assessment will be about understanding you and your dog’s specific challenges in your home environment. But what sets this programme apart is the two sessions immediately following. In these crucial sessions, I will work directly with your dog while you are there. This allows you to witness firsthand the training techniques in action and see what your dog can achieve. It also ensures your dog gets off to the best possible start, understanding the new expectations right away.

Think of these first two training sessions as me setting the stage for success. I’ll be guiding your dog through the initial steps to address the pulling on the lead, the jumping, the lack of recall, and even those moments of anxiety when alone. You’ll see the positive responses and gain the confidence to continue this momentum.

After these initial intensive sessions, the remaining five sessions will transition to empowering you. You’ll receive the same modern, effective, rewards-based training techniques as in the Essentials Programme, focusing on clear communication through body language, movement, and positive reinforcement. We can still incorporate clicker.

Imagine the sheer bliss of those first few walks after we dive into the Ultimate Dog Programme. Feel the immediate relief as that frustrating tugging on the lead melts away, replaced by the comforting presence of your dog walking peacefully by your side. Picture the unshakeable confidence blossoming within you as you see me connect with your dog, revealing their hidden potential and illuminating a clear, rapid path towards harmony.

Remember those heart-stopping moments when you call your dog in the park, your voice laced with hope, only to be met with deaf ears and a spiraling sense of panic? Imagine instead the pure joy of them turning instantly, their eyes bright with eagerness, racing back to you with unrestrained enthusiasm. Think about the exhaustion of constantly being on edge when visitors arrive, bracing yourself for the embarrassing chaos of frantic barking and unwelcome jumping. Now, envision the serenity of your dog greeting guests with calm politeness, a picture of composure that fills you with pride.

The Ultimate Dog Programme is designed for those of you who are living with the daily stress of unwanted behaviours and crave immediate, powerful change. This is for you if you’re experiencing the ache of a disconnect with your dog and long for a deeper, more joyful bond, fast. While it includes the same number of dedicated sessions, the initial seven are compressed into an intensive four-week period, acknowledging the urgency of your situation and delivering rapid results. The follow-up session, a crucial step in solidifying your progress, will be scheduled 1-2 months after this intensive phase.

Think of these initial weeks as a powerful wave of transformation washing over your relationship with your dog. You’ll be right there, witnessing as I connect directly with your dog, demonstrating what’s possible and igniting a spark of understanding within them. This immersive experience will not only open your eyes to their potential but also fill you with renewed hope and the empowerment to continue this incredible journey.

Remember the frustration of feeling trapped at home, your attempts to work or relax constantly interrupted by a restless, demanding dog? Imagine the peace of having your loyal companion settle contentedly nearby, a comforting presence rather than a source of anxiety. We’ll tackle those behaviours that cause you the most heartache – the relentless pulling, the embarrassing jumping, the gut-wrenching fear when they ignore

your calls, even those moments of loneliness your dog experiences when left alone. You’ll witness tangible progress, feeling a wave of optimism with each session.

While this programme is accelerated and intensive, it’s built on a foundation of kindness and understanding. You’ll learn to communicate with your dog in a way that truly resonates, using gentle guidance and positive reinforcement. We’ll fine-tune our approach to what brings the most joyful responses from your dog, creating a harmonious partnership built on trust and mutual respect.

The Ultimate Dog Programme is for those who can no longer bear the weight of their dog’s challenging behaviours and are ready to invest in rapid, profound change. Because I pour my complete focus and energy into each Ultimate Dog client, spaces are intentionally limited. If you’re yearning for immediate relief, a deeper connection, and a dramatically improved life with your dog, let’s seize this moment to create that reality, with speed and unwavering support.

ULTIMATE DOG PROGRAMME – WHAT’S INCLUDED

Session 1: Meet & Assess: This initial in-home session is dedicated to understanding your specific needs, observing your dog’s behaviour in their environment and the situations where you find their behaviour difficult. We’ll discuss the challenges you are facing and I’m likely to ask to see some of these behaviours in action. This allows for the creation of a truly personalised training plan. I will send you the plan within 24 hours of our first meeting.

Sessions 2-9 (Over the Following 4 Weeks): Tailored to your specific needs, situation and with an understanding of your dog’s personality, we’ll be working from our training plan, with one session approximately every 4 days on mutually convenient dates, focusing on key polite dog behaviours that we have agreed after our initial consultation.

The first four sessions (of sessions 2-7), I will be conducting the training with your dog while you’re there. I will train your dog, and provide commentary on what I am doing and why. You are more than welcome to video these lessons for your own review later.

Session 8, 1-2 months after our work together because I am invested in you and your dog’s success with training, I check in to see how you and your dog are doing. If you need more support at this time, I can suggest follow up plans. If you simply need to polish some of your dog’s behaviours, we can usually cover this in the follow up session with some training tips.

In addition, you receive these bonuses:

  1. Priority booking of all appointments to enable the implementation of the Ultimate Dog programme within its specified 4 weeks.
  2. Personalised training notes following every session. A written plan outlining what we have worked on and discussed and how to manage between lessons, both with continuing the training and for managing behaviours while out walking or in the home. Notes are provided within 24 hours of the conclusion of the appointment to which they relate.
  3. Email or WhatsApp support between appointments. Up to three email or WhatsApp questions answered between lessons, answered on the same day provided the queries arrive before 3pm. If questions arrive after 3pm, they will be answered by noon the following day apart from Sundays.
  4. Videos of the training work that I do with your dog. I bring my tripod and film the most important exercises we do in any given training session and send you the videos, with commentary to help you replicate the practice at home.
  5. A 750g bag of the dog training treats that I use when working with both my own and clients’ dogs. These treats are hypo-allergenic for dogs with sensitive tummies or allergies and are composed mainly of chicken with the addition of superfoods.
  6. Success Story Spotlight Feature (Optional): With your permission, I feature your dog’s progress (anonymised if preferred) in my marketing materials or a private client group. This may be a blog post, a Facebook feature post with pictures or video, an Instagram post with pictures or video or used on my website.
  7. Priority booking access with 10% discount on any further programmes you may decide you would like to undertake with me.
  8. Advice on good harnesses and leads to use with your dog – I can either send you the links to purchase these items if you wish, or I can buy them myself, sell them to you at cost and bring them to our next appointment. This can be particularly valuable while you are teaching your dog to walk on a loose lead.
  9. Advice on any other training tools that I might recommend or work with when working with your dog. Included is advice on how to use any additional kit.

Does the sound of the doorbell send a jolt of anxiety through you? Are your walks a constant tightrope walk, scanning the horizon for potential triggers that will unleash a torrent of barking, lunging, and distress? Do you feel trapped in your own home, unable to invite friends over for fear of your dog’s reaction? You’re carrying a heavy burden, and the isolation can be heartbreaking.

Imagine the weight lifting. What if you could answer the door without your heart pounding? What if your walks became a source of joy and connection with your dog, instead of a battle against the world? Ignoring your dog’s reactivity doesn’t just impact their well-being; it steals your peace of mind and limits your life together. The anxiety and unpredictability can erode your confidence and the very special bond you share with your dog.

But there’s hope for a different reality. Picture this:

  • The doorbell rings, and you can greet your friends with a relaxed smile. Your dog might offer a curious sniff but settles calmly, knowing you have everything under control. Your home becomes a welcoming space again, filled with laughter and connection.
  • You stroll through the park, the leash loose in your hand. Your dog glances at other dogs passing by but remains focused on you, their tail gently swaying. You can finally breathe in the fresh air and appreciate the simple joy of your dog’s companionship, the loyal friend you’ve always known shining through for the world to see.
  • The secret language of love you share with your dog, those moments of quiet affection and playful connection, no longer feel overshadowed by fear. You can finally share the wonderful aspects of your dog’s personality with others, feeling proud and confident in your ability to navigate the world together.

The Calm Confidence Programme is your pathway to this transformation. Over 12 weeks and 7 carefully structured visits, we’ll guide you and your reactive dog towards a calmer, more confident life together.

  • Visit 1: Deep Dive into Understanding (Weeks 1-2): We start by truly listening to your story and observing your dog in a supportive environment. We’ll uncover the roots of their reactivity, gaining a profound understanding of their triggers and communication style. This personalized insight forms the foundation of our tailored plan.
  • Visits 2-7: Building a Bridge to Calm (Weeks 3-12): Through gentle, positive training, we’ll work step-by-step to reshape your dog’s emotional responses. You’ll learn:
    • To speak your dog’s language: Understanding their subtle body language will empower you to anticipate and prevent reactions.
    • The power of positive connection: We’ll build a stronger bond through engaging exercises, making you the most important focus in their world.
    • How to change negative associations: Using desensitisation and counter-conditioning, we’ll help your dog learn that their triggers can predict good things, not fear.
    • Practical skills for real-world success: You’ll gain the tools and techniques to confidently manage encounters on walks and in various environments.
    • Strategies for creating safety and security: We’ll help you establish routines and boundaries that reduce your dog’s anxiety and build their trust.
    • To become your dog’s calm and confident leader: We’ll empower you with the knowledge and skills to navigate challenges with grace and assurance.

But that’s not all! When you invest in the Calm Confidence Programme, you’ll also receive these valuable bonuses:

  • Detailed Lesson Notes: Immediately following each session, you’ll receive comprehensive notes outlining the exercises, techniques, and strategies we covered. This ensures clarity and provides ongoing support for your practice between sessions.
  • Complimentary Adaptil Collar: To further support your dog’s emotional well-being, we’ll provide a free Adaptil collar. This synthetic copy of the dog appeasing pheromone can help to create a sense of calm and security for your dog.
  • Between-Session Support: We understand that challenges can arise between our scheduled visits. You’ll have access to backup telephone or WhatsApp support to address any urgent questions or concerns, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

The Calm Confidence Programme offers more than just dog training; it offers:

  • A release from the constant stress and anxiety of managing a reactive dog.
  • The joy of relaxed and enjoyable walks, where you can truly connect with nature and your companion.
  • The freedom to welcome friends and family into your home without fear or worry.
  • A deeper, more trusting bond with your dog, built on understanding and positive experiences.
  • The pride of seeing your dog’s loving personality shine through, allowing others to witness the wonderful companion you know and love.
  • Unwavering support and resources to ensure your journey to a calmer life is a success.

Stop feeling trapped by your dog’s reactivity. Invest in the Calm Confidence Programme and rediscover the peace, joy, and connection you deserve with your beloved companionship

Imagine welcoming your new puppy into your life, a tiny bundle of fluff with endless potential for love and companionship. They may already be living with you! Remember that first day when you brought them home? Now picture the joy of watching them grow into a confident, well-behaved member of your family, an amazing best friend who enriches your everyday.

My dedicated puppy programme is designed to help you create that beautiful reality, guiding you through those crucial early months with expert support and practical tools:

  • From the very first bark, I’m here for you. We’ll start with a 20-minute phone consultation so that I can truly understand your puppy’s unique personality and your hopes for your life together. This personalised approach ensures we’re on the same page from the outset, addressing any initial anxieties you might have and sharing in your joy!
  • Imagine the peace of mind as I guide you through training in the comfort of your and your puppy’s home, with five individual 1-hour visits, scheduled at your preference over five weeks. This flexibility means you can choose the pace that suits your lifestyle and your puppy’s immediate needs. If you’re eager to dive in and tackle those early challenges quickly, we can arrange sessions closer together for more intensive support.
  • Envision the pride you’ll feel as your puppy quickly learns essential behaviours like sit, stay, come, and walking nicely on a lead during our sessions. These foundational skills will not only make daily life smoother and more enjoyable but will also strengthen the bond between you and your puppy, so that training beyond their puppy months is much easier and so much more fun!
  • Imagine if your puppy responded quickly to requests to sit, so that you could put their harness on easily when they’re old enough to go out for walks, or you could get them to stop jumping all over guests. Wouldn’t that be incredible?
  • What would it be like if when you called your puppy to come to you, he or she responded quickly, so that you could keep them out of danger on walks or get them off of furniture they’re not allowed to use. And it would seriously impress your friends, too!
  • Think about the confidence you’ll gain knowing you’re navigating the critical socialisation period with expert advice. I’ll provide you with practical strategies to ensure your puppy grows into a happy, well-adjusted dog who greets new experiences with curiosity rather than fear, so that you open up a world of adventures for you both.

And because I’m invested in your long-term success, I’ll follow up with a 1-hour visit 1-2 months after our initial sessions. This is our chance to celebrate your puppy’s progress, address any new questions that may have popped up as they’ve grown, and dream together about the next exciting stages of their training journey, perhaps exploring our adolescent and adult programmes to continue building on the wonderful foundation we’ve created.

Invest in those precious early months and unlock the full potential of your puppy’s loving spirit. My programme offers not just training, but a partnership in nurturing a confident, happy, and well-behaved companion who will bring you years of joy.

Value added bonuses to the Perfect Puppy Programme:

  • To set you up for early success and happy puppy moments, I provide you with a puppy Kong and show you how to encourage your puppy to chew on it, rather than your shoes or furniture. I’ll show you how to play with your puppy with the Kong as a toy (and any other toys your puppy has) to increase their confidence and reinforce their bond with you.
  • To get training off on the right paw, I include a starter pack of delicious training treats that are the perfect puppy size. These treats are delicious for your puppy and good for them, too! They’re your secret weapons for positive reinforcement, turning training into a fun and rewarding game for your puppy, preventing those moments of puppy mischief born from boredom.
  • To support your training efforts, I also send notes after every meeting we have, so that you know exactly how to carry on with the valuable training we’ve done in each meeting and so that there is clarity and certainty.
  • To further support your training efforts, I am available by email or WhatsApp for up to two messages between each meeting, so that if something is happening with training that we didn’t see at our meeting, we can address it immediately.
  • To help you keep your puppy safe, I send you a pdf of the things your puppy should not be eating or playing with! The list isn’t huge, but it’s not just nuts and chocolate!
  • To help keep you and your puppy comfortable, I can provide advice on which crate to buy and where to place it in your home so that you enhance your puppy’s rest periods so that they are able to get the full, deep sleep that puppies need so much of and they are in a better position to learn.
  • To assist you with making your puppy’s first walks a pleasurable and comfortable experience for you both, I give advice about which harness and lead to purchase. There are several factors to consider and not all harnesses or leads provide the right set up to encourage your puppy’s free movement and comfort while allowing you to help keep them safe. I have experience and knowledge in this area and you can benefit from that!

Caroline’s help in training my dog has been amazing.

My dog is a rescue dog and was reactive to dogs we met on our walks. Caroline, with the help of her own two dogs, has completely changed this behaviour and he is now calm and happy when we meet other dogs. Caroline’s approach is confident and calm and my dog really trusts her and responds to her positive and encouraging approach.

Do You Remember Those Perfect Puppy Dreams?

Remember those Pinterest-perfect puppy dreams? The reality of a teething terror or a suddenly opinionated teenage dog in the Alresford area (stretching out to places like Winchester and Petersfield) can feel… a little less dreamy. If your once-manageable pup has morphed into a furry agent of chaos – the jumping, the selective deafness, the ‘zoomies’ that threaten your furniture – you’re absolutely not alone! You’ve likely navigated the early hurdles, or maybe you’re just starting out, but this adolescent phase can throw even the most patient dog parent for a loop. Whether you’re raising a young pup, navigating the turbulent adolescent months, or even dealing with a dog who’s reactive, finding effective dog training near Alresford that fits into your life is key.

Imagine feeling confident and in control, even with a spirited adolescent dog in areas like Alresford, Cheriton, East Meon, West Meon, Bramdean, Upper Wield, Lower Wield, Alton, Liss, Liphook, Ropley, Medstead, or Four Marks. Picture those frustrating walks transforming into enjoyable outings, perhaps walking with friends and having your dog return when you call – wouldn’t that feel great? Or those moments of chaos at home becoming more peaceful – imagine the relief! Whether you’re navigating the intense energy of adolescence, laying a solid foundation with a new puppy, or seeking solutions for a dog with reactive behaviours, you deserve a training approach that understands your specific challenges and fits seamlessly into your life. Dog Scout is based in the SO24 area, near Bramdean and Bighton. I travel up to 20 miles from my base to work with you, in your local area. We’ll work together in your home and out in the local environment, addressing real-world situations where you need the most support, be it a park in Alton, a quiet lane near East Meon, or even the familiar paths around Medstead or Four Marks. Forget feeling overwhelmed; let’s focus on building a stronger connection with your dog, step by practical step. And for a fun way to engage their natural instincts, explore our local mantrailing group – a fantastic opportunity for both of you, potentially meeting fellow dog lovers from Liss to Four Marks. If you’re ready for private dog training that truly prioritizes your needs and the well-being of your dog throughout Hampshire, let’s connect.

Hi, my name is Cary and I have owned and worked with dogs all my life, starting with growing up in a house where my parents bred Cairn terriers and owned dogs of several different breeds (Cairns, Dobermans, Schnauzers, Irish Wolfhounds). As an adult, I have always had my own dogs, most of them from puppyhood and all of whom I’ve trained myself. I also helped friends and neighbours training their dogs.

Right now, I have two dogs. One of them sometimes assists me in work that I do with clients.
