Start your puppy off on the right paw
Puppy Training (and Puppy Prep)
Got a puppy? Congratulations… and good luck with your socks.
Puppyhood is joyful, messy, hilarious and occasionally exhausting. One minute you’re in love, the next you’re googling “is this normal?” at 2am.
You’re not failing. You’re just in puppyhood.
The biting, toilet accidents, chewing and over-excitement are all common puppy behaviours. But they don’t have to become habits that follow you into adolescence.
Puppy Prep Package
Calm foundations now. Confident adolescence later.
At Dog Scout, I specialise in training and behaviour support for adolescent dogs (typically 6 months+). That’s the stage where many owners start to feel out of their depth.
But here’s the good news: the best adolescent training starts earlier.
Puppy Prep is a short, structured package of private sessions designed to help you:
- handle the most common puppy challenges with confidence
- prevent unwanted habits becoming established
- build calm foundations that make everything easier later
Most puppy parents need help with some combination of house training, biting/nipping, chewing and over-excitement and that’s exactly what we’ll focus on.
Choose the option that suits you (2 sessions or 3 sessions) below.
What happens next?
As your puppy grows, I can help you transition smoothly into one of Dog Scout’s structured adolescent programmes, so you’re supported at exactly the right stage.
Training style
Dog Scout is force-free and rewards-based. Training is calm, practical and kind, with a focus on real-life progress (not perfection).

Essential Puppy Socialisation
Whether in group classes or at-home sessions, puppy socialisation is a cornerstone of the programme. Proper socialisation is vital to shaping a confident, well-adjusted adult dog.
Through carefully guided exposure to new environments, people, and dogs, your puppy will build the skills needed to thrive in any situation. With expert guidance, every interaction is positive, fostering resilience and adaptability while preventing future behavioural issues.
This isn’t just play—it’s a foundation for a lifetime of confidence and connection, ensuring your puppy grows into a happy, well-rounded adult dog.
Key Components of the Socialisation Programme:
- Comprehensive Sensory Exposure • Carefully designed experiences engaging all five senses • Introduction to diverse environments, from urban settings to countryside
- Refined Social Interactions • Structured encounters with various people, including children and frequent visitors to the home • Controlled introductions to other dogs of different breeds and temperaments
- In Group Sessions: • Small, carefully managed playgroups in a secure setting • Expert supervision to ensure positive experiences for all puppies
- In At-Home Sessions: Tailored Confidence Building • Personalised exercises to address individual puppy needs • Progressive challenges to build resilience and adaptability
- Assistance Dog Preparation (Optional) • Specialised training for puppies destined for roles such as Diabetic Alert Dogs • Focus on public access skills and environmental stability
Socialisation goes beyond simple play. We create a rich, controlled environment where your puppy can explore and learn under expert guidance. This approach helps prevent future behavioural issues and fosters the development of a socially adept, confident dog that will be a credit to your household in any situation.
A tip from Caroline
“A quick trip outside about 15 minutes prior to a meal, and about 30 minutes after a meal can go a long way toward preventing accidents in the house”
